Talking to reporters here, Mr Anbazhagan said that the AIADMK would initiate legal action in consultation with the party High Command.
He said as per Rule 9 (b) of the Puducherry Legislative Assembly rules, the Speaker’s election should be notified 14 days prior to the election.
He charged that the Congress-DMK coalition has violated the assembly rules by notifying election on Saturday and closing the nominations by 1200 hours on Sunday.
Mr Anbazhagan claimed that no election was conducted by the Election Commission of India stating that nominations would be collected on Saturday and Sunday which are holidays.
The act of the Congress government here amounts to ‹murder of democracy›, he said, adding that to hide the groupism in the Congress and out of fear of defeat, it has violated rules to conduct the Speaker’s election in its favor.
To condemn this act, the opposition parties had decided to boycott the Speaker›s election on Sunday itself. He said the groupism in the Congress came to the forefront with Raj Bhavan Congress member K Lakshminarayanan keeping away from the session today.
In this backdrop, the opposition parties ignored the invitation of the Chief Minister to take part in the Assembly proceedings today, he added.
