In the Facebook page created in the name of Kalyani Kidney Care Centre created by an unidentified man, there was an offer of Rs 3 crore to the donor for a legal transplantation.
Lured by the huge amount, many approached him through FB and they were asked to pay Rs 15,000 as registration fees in the account of a nationalised bank in Mizoram.
Once the amount was paid, there wouldn’t be any response from the fraudster. In a recent petition to Superintendent of Police S Sakthi Ganesan, Kalyani Kidney Care Centre’s Managing Director M Prabhakar said that a doctor in the hospital received many calls on March 1 from persons expressing their willingness to donate kidneys.
One of the callers, a woman from Hyderabad, told the doctor that she was promised Rs 1.50 crore before donating her organ and the balance amount at the hospital after completion of the process. However, she did not get any further information after she paid Rs 15,000.
On suspicion, she checked the website of the hospital and found it to be a fake one. Following this, the hospital sought police to take action to prevent people from losing their money. Following this, the Cyber Crime Police blocked the Facebook page and traced the mobile number to Bengaluru. Police suspect that many persons were duped following the same modus-operandi and further efforts are on to nab the culprit.
