The government is already late in distributing textbooks with the new syllabus. A senior official from the School Education Department told DT Next on Thursday that this year government has introduced four new uniform patterns to the students and the new uniforms are being stitched.
Accordingly, students from Classes 1 to 5 and 6 to 8 will get uniforms in different patterns. Similarly, students of Classes 9 and 10 will get different uniforms from those in Classes 11 and 12.
The senior official said that the cloth had already been purchased in bulk quantity from Arvind Mafatlal Group and the company had delivered the material in time. “The stitching, however, took up a lot of time. It will be completed this week and the uniforms will be distributed to the students from Monday onwards,” the official said.
A senior management staff from Anakaputhur government school said that the authorities have not given any reason for the delay in the supply of uniforms. “Although we have sent our list of beneficiaries a long time ago, we are yet to receive it,” she added.
Meanwhile, parents are worried about the lack of materials for their kids. “Not even a single item has been distributed among the students. Last year, everything was given as per the scheduled time. But this year, my daughter has been going to school without any books for the last four days,” said K Sujatha, a parent from Pammal.
