The computer generated merit list will be the key for the students to attend the counselling and they can choose any four engineering colleges of their choice. At present more than 1.32 lakh students, seeking engineering admissions in the State, have applied through online. The registration commenced on May 2 and ended on May 31.

After receiving the applications, DoTE has allocated random nu mbers to all the aspirants. Accordingly, the random number and certificate verification schedule were sent to the candidates through SMS.

The certificate verification, which began on June 3, is being held at the student’s facilitation centres, that was setup across all the districts. DoTE has established 45 such facilitation centres where experts would guide the students during the admission process.

A senior official from DoTE said that counselling for special reservation categories, including differently abled candidates, would be held from June 21. Online counselling would be conducted only for the students from the general category.

This academic year, about 1.47 engineering seats are vacant in about 500 constituent colleges across the State. The official said that counselling for general category will start from July 3 and would end on July 28. Admission notices will be sent to the students according to their choice of college.

After a gap of two decades, DoTE would be conducting the engineering counselling after Anna University refused to conduct the annual process after a row with Higher Education Department over the change of counselling committee members pattern.
