The incident, caught on CCTV cameras, took place in Thudiyalur on May 9. The video has been widely circulated in social media. It shows the woman, identified as Arthy, a resident of Ganapathy Garden in Thoppampatty, falling out of the moving car even as bystanders watched helplessly.

The police said Arthy married engineer Arun Joe Amalraj in 2008 and they have two girls. The couple had a turbulent relationship and in 2014, Arthy moved back to her parents’ house in Mumbai with the kids.

Arun Joe, however, met her recently and convinced her to move back with him. “The family had set out for a trip to Ooty on May 9, when they got into a quarrel and Arthy’s husband and in-laws pushed her out of the car to kill her. She suffered severe injuries on her head and legs,” the police said.

Arthy has lodged a complaint against her husband and in-laws at the Thudiyalur police station and is now in Mumbai.

A case has been registered against Arun Joe and his parents on various sections including section 4 of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act, 1998. Police were on a search for the accused persons and further investigation is under way.
