City techie kills Tiruchy girl over rejection

Two young women, including an engineering student, were stabbed by spurned lovers in separate incidents at Tiruchy and in Chennai on Friday evening. While the student from Tiruchy died on the spot, the other victim is battling for life at a city hospital.

A Malar Vizhi Meera (20), who was pursuing her BE at a private college in Tiruchy, was stabbed to death by an IT professional who had one-sided feelings for her. The police arrested the stalker. Police said Meera’s neighbour, Murali Balakrishnan (32), working in Chennai, had developed feelings for the girl, but this wasn’t reciprocated. Murali, also a the father of two kids, spoke of his love to Meera but she refused his advances and threatened to inform her parents. On Friday, when Meera was returning from college at 6 pm, Murali waylaid her and stabbed her in 20 spots after which she collapsed and died on the spot.


Lover attacks girl at citystation: In the second incident, which brought back memories of the murder of a young woman in 2016 in Nungambakkam railway station, a 26-year-old woman was attacked with a machette by a dejected lover at Chetpet railway station here on Friday night. The victim, a native of Erode, works in a cooperative society in Chennai and is battling for life at Kilpauk Medical College. “Around 8pm, the woman was sitting at the railway station and the man was talking to her on platform number 2. As a train was entering the platform, he suddenly attacked her and jumped on the track. He was hit by the train,” an officer said. The accused, identified as Surender, 35, who is also from Erode, was admitted to RGGGH. Though the two were in a relationship, the girl was ready to marry the man her parents had chosen. This had irked Surender.
