Group-I: Age limit enhanced, govt tells HC

Recording the government’s submission, a division bench comprising Justice S Manikumar and Justice Subramonium Prasad dismissed a plea moved by one M Elangovan in this regard saying there was nothing left in the writ petition forfurther adjudication.

The petitioner had sought to direct TNPSC to relax the upper age limit from 35 years to 37 years for SC/ST candidates in TNPSC Group I services examination and issue a fresh notification based on his representation dated November 21, 2016.

But Additional Government Pleader E Manoharan and TNPSC standing counsel Niraimathi submitted that by the Government Order (MS)No 93, Personal and Administrative Reforms dated July 17, 2018, the upper age limit for the candidates of all categories appearing for the competitive examinations for Group-I, I-A and I-B service conducted by the TNPSC has been increased and the same will be made applicable in the Commission’s next notification for the said recruitment.

Accordingly, for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Most Backward Classes, Denotified Communities and Backwards Classes, the minimum age limit is 21 years while the maximum age limit has been increased from 35 years to 37 years. For others, the maximum age limit has been extended from 30 years to 32 years.

The submission by the government also noted that considering the repeated requests of the aspirants to Group-I examination, the Chief Minister, under Rule 110 of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Rules announced the enhancement of the age limit for the said TNPSC exams on June 1, 2018. Similarly, necessary amendments to the Tamil Nadu Government Servants (Conditions of Service) Act, 2016, would be made separately, the government added in its submission.
