The farmers and public were affected due to projects like installation of high tension towers, GAIL pipeline and the eight-way Green Corridor Project.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Erode MP A Ganesamurthy said that eight MP’s will be participating in a farmers’ conference in Erode district on June 29 to discuss and resolve issues faced by them.

In the meeting to be organised by the Tamil Nadu Farmers Livelihood Protection Movement at Sennimalai in Erode district, MPs from Erode, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Nilgiris, Karur, Namakkal, Salem and Pollachi are participating.

“There are several farmers’ associations fighting for their rights individually. This meeting will pave the way for all associations to come together under a single umbrella to resolve their issues. Our voices will get louder and make the government react once if we come together,” the MP said.

Further, he said the state government has been bent upon erecting high tension transmission towers in farm lands despite the World Health Organisation announcing on the hazards of such a project.

“We are not against development projects, but our plea is to take the electric lines underground by laying cables. The MPs will all join hands to pressurise the government to end farmers’ woes,” he said. The forum will also stress on implementing pending projects like Avinashi-Athikadavu and Pandiaru-Punnampuzha schemes for the benefit of farmers.
