Bid to ferry 54kg ganja to Sri Lanka from Thanjavur foiled
The marine police attached to the Tamil Nadu Coastal Security Group on Thursday seized 54 kg ganja that was reportedly about to be transported illegally to Sri Lanka from Sethupavachathiram in Thanjavur district. Three persons were arrested in connection with the regard.

According to sources, based on a tip-off, the marine police of the Coastal Security Group led by Inspector Suba went on a vigil at the Sethupavachathiram check post and intensified vehicle inspection along the East Coast Road in the region.
Suddenly, the team spotted a speeding car-reportedly heading from Tiruchy-and upon intercepting the vehicle, found a bundle of ganja weighing around 54 kg concealed in the vehicle. The team then seized the bundle and also the car.
The team then arrested Sekar (59) of Ellis Nagar in Madurai, Kalandhar Kani (30) from Jagathapattinam in Pudukkottai, and Viswanathan (45) from Mandapam in Ramanathapuram district.
Upon interrogation, the trio confessed to the police that they were on the way to have the narcotic substance transported to Sri Lanka through a boat from Thondi. The seized narcotics was estimated to cost Rs 5.40 lakh.
