HR and CE officer uses pen cam to film women’s bath

The Joint Commissioner of the Madurai region of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department was on Thursday arrested on charges of surreptitiously filming his women colleagues while on an official trip to a temple in the district.

According to police sources, R. Pachaiyappan was accused of clandestinely filming two women from his department while they were bathing. The two women, one holding a senior post and the other a typist in the HR&CE department, along with other officials accompanied Pachaiyappan to Sathuragiri Mahalingam temple in Madurai on June 28. They were assigned the task of counting money collected as ‘hundial’ offering from the devotees.


The two women employees, who were provided accommodation in a VIP room, decided to hit the shower before reporting for duty. It was learnt that Pachaiyappan, placing a mobile phone and a pen camera on his clothes and leaving them hanging on a hook in the bathroom, had filmed the women taking bath on June 29, according to sources. Pachaiyappan’s clothes with the electronic gadgets inside them is said to have been found hanging in the bathroom since June 28.


The video of the women showering was later found to have been captured by the pen camera of the accused.


Based on a complaint lodged, the Saptur police have filed a case against Pachaiyappan under Sections 354 (C), 509 IPC and 66 (E) of the IT Act and arrested him. Besides, mobile phones, a laptop and a pen camera were also seized from him, the statement read.
