According to sources, K Sathyamurthy (31) of Muthukulam village near Meensurutti in Ariyalur recorded derogatory comments against a particular dominant community and remarked that his community would always dominate them. The video of sizeable length had also reportedly abused the women of the other community.

The TikTok video subsequently went viral in the region and allegedly incited people from the community in question to take revenge against Sathyamurthy and his community.

The video created tension in the region and sensing danger, VAO Jasmine lodged a complaint with the Meensurutti police station. The police, registering a case, arrested Sathyamurthy on Thursday.

It may be noted that a derogatory message about a particular community led to violence at Ponnamaravathi in Pudukkottai district in April, when people from the community throwing stones at policemen, damaging their vehicles and government buses. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC was later imposed in Ponnamaravathi taluk to prevent further escalation of tension. Around 5,000 people from the community then converged in front of the local police station, demanding arrest of the miscreants who spread the audio clip, upon which, a few youth were arrested.
