Corruption case against senior Tasmac executive, 11 officials

The case is registered under Section 102 of the CrPC, which allows the police to seize any property that may be alleged or suspected to have been stolen, or which may be found under suspicious circumstances. 

The seizure of unaccounted cash happened after the DVAC team raided the office of the senior executive after receiving information that the staff at the office were indulging in high level graft by collecting illegal gratification from the staff of liquor retail shops through the shop supervisors and salesmen functioning in Chennai region. 

In return, there would not be frequent surprise inspection at the shops and also allow them to sell liquor at higher rates than the rates prescribed by the government – a frequent complaint among consumers. Further, it was gathered that the senior manager was also collecting bribe for transfer and posting of staff in Chennai region. 

Apart from Muthukumaraswamy, the DVAC has listed 11 Tasmac officials and also a private person as suspects in its FIR dated July 3. 

These include four supervisors, six salesmen and an assistant salesman. The supervisors were identified as MV Ramadas (shop number 9006 in Mannurpet), D Gowrishankar (shop number 9184, Korattur), SK Ramesh (shop number 8889), and M Murugan (shop number 834, Triplicane). 

The salesmen were P Chandrakumar (shop number 4510 in Chemmencherry), T Sridhar (shop number 8931 in Poonamallee), J Ramu (shop number 4046 in Kancheepuram), K Kumar (shop number 8709 in Tiruttani), K Mohanraj (shop number 4335 in Perungalathur) and M Bhagiyaraj (shop number 4015, Chengalpattu). In addition, R Murali, assistant salesman, shop number 4016 and M Murali, a private person from Pammal, were also named in the FIR.
