Arrangements have been made to divert water from the Hogenekkal (Cauvery) Drinking Water Scheme to the 5.50 lakh litres ground level reservoir (GLR) at Mettutakarakuppam. Pipes laid to connect the GLR with the railways overhead tank (OHT) at Parsanpet nearly 3 km away will be tested on Tuesday with water being pumped from the GLR to a ground level location near the overhead tank through submersible pumps.
When officials are satisfied with the flow, the remaining 5 per cent work, which includes connecting the OHT will be completed in a day. This will ensure that water moves to Villivakkam for decanting on Wednesday. The water from Villivakkam will then be routed to the Kilpauk water works for distribution to residential areasin Chennai.
