They were protesting the attacks on hospital and hospital staff, including physicians, by agitated relatives of patients.

More than 500 staff participated in a demonstration staged in front of the Government General Hospital in Puducherry demanding steps to an end to the attack on doctors and all otherstaff of hospitals.

They proposed implementation of hospital security act, declaring hospitals as protected areas, besides other demands.

In view of the boycott protest by the hospital staff, out-patients as well as in-patients services werebadly affected.

It may be noted that two days ago, relatives of a person who died in a primary health centre at Karikklampakkam ransacked the PHC and attacked the staff.

This provoked the hospital staff to resort to an agitation demanding to end such acts by relatives of patients and provide protection to the medical staff.
