Udhayanidhi factor behind dist secretaries’ meet at Anbagam

The party high command had chosen to hold it at ‘Anbagam’, the nerve centre of the DMK youth wing, ostensibly, to gladden the newly appointed youth wing secretary Udhayanidhi Stalin.

The choice of venue seems to be a conscious political decision.

In fact, the decision to hold the meet at Anbagam was proposed a week earlier when Stalin, Udhayanidhi and a young MLA close to the youth wing secretary along with a handful of advisers had got in to a huddle at the party president’s residence to discuss the fall out of the guard change at the youth wing leadership.

The debutant MLA and well-wishers of Stalin junior had proposed Anbagam to make a few sulking district secretaries, who were not content with Udhayanidhi’s rise, fall in line.

The decision, sources say, was triggered by innocuous comments of a district secretary that the change in youth wing leadership would not change the equation at the districts and Arivalayam would continue to be their seat of power.

Udhayanidhi, if sources are to be believed, may have planned a State-wide tour to warm up to all district secretaries and create a sync between the functioning of his wing and theparent party.

Going by the venue change, Anbagam might draw more attention in the days to come, understandably, to put the spotlight on the youth wing secretary, whose elevation was seconded by almost all district secretaries.

A few defectors from other parties were made to join the party in the presence of Udhayanidhi, courtesy Stalin who could only accommodate a dozen others for want of time.
