After 16 days, State Assembly adjourned sine die
After a lively session that lasted for 16 days during which the treasury and opposition benches sparred over a host of issues, the Tamil Nadu Assembly adjourned sine die on Saturday.

Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, who is also the leader of the house of the government, introduced the adjournment motion after the debates and passage of bills. It was taken up by Speaker P Dhanapal, who declared it passed after confirming that there was no opposition for the motion.
Later in his address to the House, Speaker Dhanapal said the seventh session of the 15th assembly commenced on June 28 and went on till Saturday. The previous session of the assembly was held in two meetings. The first meeting commenced on January 2 and went on till January 8. The second meeting of the sixth session commenced with budget presentation by deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, who handles the Finance portfolio, on February 8 and it ended on February 14. In all, there were 28 days of assembly session, including seven days which had evening sessions, which stretched to 162 hours in total.
The seventh session was held for 16 days, during which 129 MLAs spoke on various issues for more than 55 hours. Among the 129 MLAs, 67 were from the ruling AIADMK. Together, they took 21 hours. Meanwhile, 62 MLAs from opposition parties spoke for 33 hours, and an additional 12 hours were given for them following their requests.
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami spoke for close to two hours on various demands concerning the departments that came under him. In addition, he also rose to answer the opposition benches when other ministers and departments came under fire, for a total of 50 minutes. Total time taken by ministers in their address is more than 18 hours.
There were 13,552 questions asked by 99 MLAs in this session, of which 8,440 were admitted. Out of these, 2,090 were starred questions while remaining 6,342 were unstarred.
