552 docs posted in govt hospitals, govt to recruit 200 more on contract: Minister
The state government would soon recruit 200 doctors with post graduate qualification on two-year contracts to work in government medical college hospitals, Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar said on Tuesday.

Interacting with the media after a darshan at the Arulmigu Arunachaleswarar temple at Tiruvannamalai, he said that 552 doctors have recently been posted in government hospitals while all existing vacancies in primary health centres in the state were filled.
Referring to the accident and trauma care centre which was recently started in the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital with Australian help, the minister said that it had saved lives of 4,301 accident victims. Vijaya Baskar added that plans were afoot to improve and extend such centres to other hospitals at a cost of Rs 210 crore.
Speaking about the acute water scarcity faced by the Tiruvannamalai government medical college hospital, the minister said that Rs 2.30 crore was recently sanctioned for a separate water support system for the hospital.
