“Andhra Pradesh government is planning to increase the height of the 22 check dams across river Palar to 40 feet but the state without taking steps to speed up the cases pending in Supreme Court is remaining as a silent spectator. Government should take immediate steps to prevent Andhra Pradesh government from doing so.”
He also said that there was an agreement between Chennai and Mysuru provinces in 1892 that dams should not be constructed across Palar without the consent of both the states and the same was stressed in Seventh Schedule of the constitution, but Karnataka had constructed a check dam in Pethamangalam in Kolar district across Palar and Andhra Pradesh had constructed 22 dams across the river, violating the agreement and the Constitution.
If Tamil Nadu government choses to remain silent the state will not get a single drop of water from Palar in the future, said Vaiko.
