DSP R Subburaju, ADSP A Manikkavelu, Tiruporur inspector T Kannan, DSP (PEW) V A Ravichandran, Kelambakkam inspector M Pandi and Mamallapuram inspector M Chiranjeevi were earlier transferred from their posts after Nellaiyappan reportedly committed suicide after releasing a video online accusing the above officials of demanding bribe from him to run illegal bars in Kancheepuram district. However, after the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption registered a case and conducted raids, the DGP officially placed them under Vacancy Reserve.

In the FIR recorded by the DVAC, it had accused all the above police officials of colluding with TASMAC and Excise department officials and receiving bribe from men running illegal bars in Kancheepuram South. It had also mentioned that only five out of 106 bars in Chengalpattu taluk were licensed.
