For the past 30 years, as many as 17 families encroached the Railway land at Rasu Udayar Thottam and constructed houses. The administration also provided them electricity and water connection.

Meanwhile, the land was needed for expansion of the Railway station and the authorities with machines went to the area and tried to evict them. However, they were gheraoed by the people staying there.

Hearing the news, AIADMK MLA A Anbazhagan, who is the legislator of the area, met the officials and spoke in support of the people and sought some time for their eviction.

However, the officials refused stating that they have extended the deadline to vacate the land multiple times. They then suggested to seek extension of time in writing and Anbazhagan gave a letter seeking 20 more days for them to vacate the land.

Accepting this, the officials left the place stating that the eviction drive would not be carried out after 20 days. They also warned that the deadline would be extended further.
