Rain brings down veggie, flower prices at Koyambedu
The rains that hit several districts in the State in the recent weeks have brought down the prices of vegetables and flowers at the Koyambedu wholesale market. The traders dealing with flowers have also been hit by the dip in market after Aadi Peruku on Friday.

Vendors at the wholesale flower market said that after Aadi Peruku on Friday, the flower prices have fallen drastically except jasmine, Jasminum sambac (mullai).
According to S Mookaiya, the secretary of Chennai Koyambedu Malar Podhu Vyabarigal Sangam, jasmine was sold for Rs 300-360 and jasminum sambac (mullai) for Rs 240-300 in the recent past.
“There was rainfall in the past few days so there was no increase in flower prices except on Aadi peruku. The current price of jasmine is around Rs 150-200, mullai is priced around Rs 100-120, tuberose (sampangi) is sold at Rs 120-150 and rose at Rs 100-120,” he said.
Vegetable traders saw sales fall up to 10-20 per cent compared to last month. The secretary of Koyambedu Wholesale Market, P Sukumar, said, “Compared to last month, there is a fall in the sale of vegetables up to 10-20 per cent this month. There is extra one-two kg of vegetables grown due to recent rain. Only carrot price has increased by about 20 per cent compared to last month. Now, brinjal is sold at Rs 35-45 and ginger for Rs 140-130,” he said.
There is no change in fruit prices except pomegranates and apples. Pomegranates is sold at Rs 150-180 and apple at Rs 200-250 per kg. “Now, we get only Australia oranges that is sold at Rs 120-130.Within two months, we will start getting Indian oranges, which will be priced at Rs 70-80,” said SFM Dhanush, Kai Kani Malar Podhu Nala Sangam.
