TV actor among two arrested in fraud case

The Shastri Nagar police arrested two men, including a character artiste in television serials, for collecting funds by posing as representatives of an NGO called Bhumi.

The accused, N Syed Ali Khan (29) of Kodambakkam and A Gowtham (29) of Royapettah, were remanded in judicial custody. Police said Saif Ali Khan had acted in a Tamil serial named ‘Valli’.


Arunkumar, a volunteer with Bhumi, on Sunday noticed two men collecting funds from people visiting Elliot’s Beach with his NGO’s identity card. On suspicion, he alerted the Shastri Nagar police.


They were picked up for interrogation during which they admitted that they cheated the people with fake ID cards and collected money. The police seized Rs 8,000 from the duo before they were remanded. Further investigation is on.
