“There is a mobile app in which advertisements are rolled out to recruit young Indian women for domestic work in Kuwait. There are complaints that women are sold to rich people in Kuwait,” said Ravikumar, while delivering his address in Lok Sabha.

He also said that the app paves way for modern day slavery as women sent to work in Kuwait are treated as slaves. Ravikumar also questioned the action of Indian government in banning the app and the protection given by the government for Indian women working as domestic servants in foreign countries.

State Minister for External Affairs V Muralidharan, in his reply, informed Ravikumar that Indian Embassy in Kuwait had expressed its concern about the app and has taken steps to ban it.

Ravikumar further said that women from Tamil Nadu constitute the largest number of domestic workers sent to various foreign countries and he has been demanding the Centre, for long, to form a separate Ministry for the welfare of Indian labourers working in foreign countries.
