Several parts of Delta districts inundated

Heavy rain pounded the entire Delta districts starting from Wednesday night till Thursday morning, resulting in water stagnation at few places. The downpour also resulted in damages to two houses in Tiruvidaimaruthur and Panthanallur, with water entering low lying areas.

The Delta districts have been receiving good spell of rain for the past five days and has been enlisted under large excess rainfall category with more than 60 per cent rain that has made many rain fed canals almost full. According to the official report, among which, Perambalur (56.8 mm rainfall), Ariyalur (51 mm), Tiruvarur (58 mm) and Thanjavur (48 mm) received maximum rain compared to the other districts in the Delta district.


The rain that started to lash around 1 am on Thursday wee hours continued to lash in Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Karur, Tiruchy, Pudukkottai and Perambalur. In Nagapattinam, the heavy rain was witnessed at Mayiladuthurai, Sirkazhi and Vedaranyam. While in Tiruvarur, the heavy rain was witnessed at Needamangalam and the surrounding area. In Perambalur, the rain that started in the night and continued till morning.


The heavy downpour damaged two houses in Tiruvidaimaruthur and Panthanallur. At around 12.30 am, the rain destroyed the house of Dhurga of Mariammanlkoil street and the house of Pankajam.


Meanwhile, the rain water entered into K-Putupatti bazaar and the traders swung into action and removed the water from the bazaar. Similarly, the rain water entered into the streets of Gandharvakotttai and the adjacent places. The pounding rain also damaged few electrical appliances in the area.
