The flood alert has been issued to downstream areas in Erode, Namakkal and Karur. Following a good inflow due to rains in its catchment areas, the dam reached its full reservoir level of 105 feet on Monday at 5am.

The dam first reached its FRL on November 8 after about 40 years and again on November 17. However, the water level began to nosedive, when rains slowed down.

The inflow into the dam began to surge once again since Saturday following torrential rains in The Nilgiris. At 11am on Monday, the dam recorded an inflow of 26,300 cusecs, while 25,000 cusecs was released from the reservoir. Then, at 2pm, the inflow rose to 30,427 cusecs and about 29,000 cusecs was released from the dam.

The Public Works Department officials are monitoring the situation to discharge surplus water from the dam. Due to an increase in release of water, the Kodiveri dam on Bhavani river remains flooded and tourists were barred from taking bath.
