Medi-call to offer treatment to immobile patients at doorstep

District Collector KS Kandasamy on Monday inaugurated a novel scheme in the district to offer medical assistance at doorstep to those who could not come to hospitals.

This concept has been introduced for patients suffering from spinal and neck injuries, accident victims, patients suffering from breast and ovarian cancer and those with advanced renal disease who are unable to visit hospitals for treatment.


Hence in collaboration with the Directorate of Public Health (DPH), the Collector started the ‘medi-call’ scheme.


Talking to DT Next he said, “The 18 block level hospital are linked in this scheme and when a patient dials the medi-call mobile number 8925-123450, a personnel from the nearest medical facility would visit the patient at his or her house and provide free treatment.”


Kandasamy inaugurated the scheme at Perunkattur in Vemmbakkam panchayat union. Following a district level survey, he said, “A total of 945 patients, including 487 partial paralysis patients, 118 cancer, 68 suffering from spinal and neck injuries, 16 mentally affected, 65 suffering from prolonged bed sores and 191elderly, would be given priority.”
