No holiday: Skill training after Class 12 exams

As part of the training programme, the School Education Department will be identifying central and state government institutions apart from the premier industrial houses for imparting short term skill development training programmes for Class 12 students.

At present, more than five lakh students are studying in Class 12 in about 4,200 government and government aided schools across the state.

A senior official from the Directorate of School Education told DT Next that the government’s move to impart skill development training programme to the students is to enable them to prepare immediately for jobs or set up their own start-ups.

“Based on the skill gap study conducted for our state and demand from industries, the students will be trained in key sectors such as automobile, health care, textile, IT, agriculture, leather, beauty and wellness, logistics, banking and financial service, insurance and media, entertainment.”

He said, to start with, automobile, IT, beauty and wellness and banking and financial services training courses will be taken up.

Stating that the training period will be given at three stages, the official said that first stage training programme will be in the quarterly holiday and the second session will start during half yearly leave and the third will be during summer vacation.

“Training will be given through the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation where the students will be taken to various industries to study and know about the real time projects and experts from skill development corporation will not only give training, but also provide various innovative ideas to the students for self-employment,” he said.

Stating that the first training programme will be started in the coming summer vacation, the official said that the schools will be asked to prepare the list of students, who want to participate in the training. “According to the list, courses will be arranged batch-wise,” he added.
