Beetle sting: School students among 35 injured in Thanjai
As many as 35 persons including school students were injured after swam of beetle stung them near a Government Higher Secondary School near Papanasam in Thanjavur district on Thursday.

The beneficiaries of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) were working near the Government HSS in Veeramangudi village near Papanasam on Thursday afternoon, when suddenly a swarm of beetle stung the workers. The injured identified as Santhi (40), Rajammal (65), Govindammal (60) and Gnanam (56), all from Semmankudi, were immediately rushed to the Primary Health Centre in Veeramangudi. Among them, Santhi and Rakammal were referred to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
Meanwhile, in the evening, around 30 students who were returning home after the school hours, were also chased by the beetles. All the students were immediately rushed to a PHC in Veeramangudi. Among the injured, Deepanraj (15), Bharathkumar (14) Pugalendhi (15), Murasoli Maran (17), Naresh Kumar (16), Naresh (17), Sabari (17) and Sarathkumar (16), were referred to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital forfurther treatment.
The CEO M Radhakrishnan and the Tahsildar Venkateshwaran visited the students in the Medical College Hospital. Subsequently, the fire and rescue personnel were pressed into service to get rid of thebeetles.
