Former principal of MOP Vaishnav College, Nirmala Prasad, passes away at 69
Educationist Nirmala Prasad, who was also the former principal of MOP Vaishnav College for Women here in the city, passed away on Thursday morning. She was 69.

The educationist, who passed away after suffering a heart attack, spent around 40 years of her professional life in various colleges in the city and has been credited with building MOP Vaishnav College into the brand it is today.
According to media reports, Nirmala Prasad worked at Ethiraj College for nearly 21 years. It was in 1997 that she joined MOP Vaishnav College as principal. She is credited with introducing a holistic curriculum in the college - from developing an entrepreneurship cell to introducing a finishing school course.
Nirmala was also a Syndicate member of the University of Madras for three terms and a member of the UniversityGrants Commission.
MOP Vaishnav College on Thursday declared a holiday for students as a sign of respect to her and will be holding a prayer meeting on Friday to condole her death, reports said.
Many, including Nirmala’s students and former colleagues, took to social media to express their grief at theeducationist’s passing.
