Head constable gets 5-year RI in Pocso case
A police head constable was convicted of sexual assault charges and sentenced to undergo five years of rigorous imprisonment by Ramanathapuram Fast Track Mahila Court on Thursday.

The accused head constable has been identified as Saravanan. According to the prosecution, the accused, while residing at the police quarters in Rameswaram, was found guilty of sexually abusing a ten-year-old minor girl, who was the daughter of a fellow police at the same quarters.
After the victim took the issue to the knowledge of her parents, they moved Rameswaram Town police and lodged a complaint against the head constable.
A case was filed on February 4, 2018, against the accused under the Pocso Act. After sensing police action, the head constable went into hiding for over a month. However, he was nabbed later and the case was shifted to Rameswaram All Women Police for further investigation.
After hearing the prosecution witness, Judge T. Bagavathiammal pronounced the accused guilty and sentenced him to undergo five years of rigorous imprisonment. Besides, a fine of Rs 9,000 was also imposed on the accused.
