In 2016, Y Akbar Ahmed had sought records such as land records, old survey register, resurvey register, town survey register, A-Register, Field Measurement Book (FMB), Old Paimash Boundary Sketch, Block Map and Urban Land Tax receipts for a particular survey number under the Tambaram Taluk Office through an RTI enquiry. But, the reply he received in April 2017 did not have the full information he required and he had to appeal to the district revenue officer in December that year.
The State Information Commission, which took up matter during investigation recently, found that the authorities have issued only a single page information after receiving a Rs 535 fee. The Commission has ordered the officials concerned to furnish the data required by the applicant free of cost and return the fee he had already paid.
Apart from slapping a fine of Rs 500 on the officials, the Commission has asked the authorities to reply within 30 days to why they should not impose a fine of Rs 25,000 on them for not discharging their duties as public information officers.
