“Already, the sale of lotteries is banned in the state and firm action will be taken on those who are involved in the illegal sale of lotteries. Already 12 persons, suspected to have involved in the sale of lotteries, have been arrested,” State Law Minister C Ve Shanmugam, told DT Next.
The death of five persons of a single family has sent shockwaves across the state and politicians demanded the government to act fast on the issue.
“The news of death of goldsmith Arun and his family is shocking and he (Arun) has released a video in which he has said that the reason for his death is lotteries. Arun had the habit of purchasing illegal lotteries and this had resulted in debt from which he could not come out,” said PMK leader Ramadoss in a statement.
He also blamed the sale of illegal lotteries for the death of Arun and his family. “The lotteries are sold freely in all the district headquarters and they are targeting the poor people. The government should intervene in the issue and should prevent the deaths of poor people in the state,” said Ramadoss.
Meanwhile, CPI state secretary R Mutharasan alleged that lottery sale is going on with the active support of the police and in Arun’s case too the lottery sale was going on with the support of local policemen.
When the Minister was asked about the action on the policemen, he replied, “Whoever be the person involved in illegal sale of lottery Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has instructed every Minister and official to take stringent action”.
