CM health insurance scheme soon in Pondy

Puducherry administration would soon start ‘Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme’ on the lines of Ayushman Bharat introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to include the people who were left out in the national scheme, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said on Saturday.

Inaugurating the ‘Health and Wellness Centre’ at the Kosappalayam Primary Health Centre, the chief minister said under the Ayushman Bharath Insurance scheme being implemented with 60 per cent fund from the centre and 40 per cent of the Puducherry government, as many as one lakh families in Puducherry were enrolled.

“They will get an insurance cover for Rs 5 lakh,” he said adding that in the similar lines, the Puducherry Chief Minister’s health insurance scheme will also provide an insurance cover for Rs 5 lakh. He said the Puducherry administration has so far conducted 750 heart surgeries which would cost Rs 3 to 4 lakh in private hospitals free of cost. “Of the 750 only two were dead and others are keeping well,” he added.

Stating that Puducherry stands first in several sectors including health, and education, the CM said that 100 per cent institutional deliveries are being carried out only in Puducherry. “Recently, we received an award for the best outpatient treatment in the country,” he said adding that there is a hospital within two kilometres here. “Rs 850 crore is being allocated for health in the budget which is second to education,” he added. “Yoga training, exercises, etc are there in the wellness centre,” he said adding that in case of any doubt the doctors there would have a teleconference with the doctors of GH to prescribe the right treatment.
