Preparations for Class 5, 8 board exams begin

In line with the Centre's new education policy, the School Education Department here had announced that board exams would be conducted for classes 5 and eight.

The board exam for Class 5 would begin on April 15 and ends on April 20, while for Class 8 students, the exams would start on April 17 and end on April 17. About 20 lakh students from government and government-aided schools are expected to appear for the exams.

As the first step, a high-level committee comprising eight members has been formed in each district to carry out and monitor the works for conducting board exams, a senior official from the Directorate of Exams told DT Next.

"We have asked all school managements in the State to upload information about the students who are to appear for board exams through Education Management Information System (EMIS), a common platform to connect schools, teachers and students with the government,” he added.

Once the details of the students are uploaded, hall tickets would be issued based on the data, the official said, adding that the committee would start identifying the exam centres.

"They will also ensure that these exam centres are within one km from their residence in the case of Class 5 students. Similarly, for Class 8 students, the exam centres will be within three km distance from their residence,” added the official.

“As the timetable for the exams has already been announced, teachers were instructed to ensure that they complete all the portions within the stipulated time,” he said. The examination pattern would be a formative assessment model where 40 marks would be allocated from basic concepts, practices and learning outcomes of the students.

“Question papers will be prepared by members of the examination committee like it is done for the board exams for SSLC, Class 11 and Class 12,” he said.

The answer sheets would be evaluated by teachers concerned, the official said, adding that marks would be uploaded online on the EMIS. “The same method of this exam related worked will be followed every year,” he said.
