In Tirupur district, eight members of Manithaneya Jananayaga Katchi (MJK) were arrested for writing anti-CAA slogans on roads. They wrote messages on Kangeyam Road and CTC corner areas demanding the withdrawal of the citizenship law.
The Tirupur South police rushed to the spot and arrested the eight people and painted over the slogans on the road.
In Coimbatore, the DMK’s (women wing) organised a kolam protest in Sundapalayam, where a large number of women participated and drew anti-CAA kolams in front of their houses.
Slogans such as “no to CAA” and “Stop National Register of Citizens (NRC)” were common across the city. They claimed that the citizenship Act would be detrimental to the welfareof Sri Lankan Tamils and people from minority communities.
In Salem, the police warned women against drawing anti-CAA kolams. But, in many areas such as Pallapatty, Saminathapuram and Alagapuram, women rebelled and drew the kolams anyway. On receiving information, the police rushed to those areas and asked the residents to erase kolams with the anti-CAA messages and warned of action against those who did not comply. This resulted in some tension in the area.
On the other hand, members of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) wrote anti-CAA slogans using mehendi on their palms and hands in Salem district. Similarly, in Erode district, DMK functionaries drew anti-CAA kolams in front of their houses.
