Counting of votes for rural local body polls starts

The two-phased rural local bodies polls were held on Dec 27 and 30 in Tamil Nadu. Counting of votes for the same has been started today. There are about 315 counting centers across the state and tight security has been deployed at all the centers.
Barring the nine newly formed local bodies, the elections were held in two phases in 27 districts. Instead of Electronic Voting Machines, ballot papers in four different colours were used in the poll.
Going by the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission’s statements, the first phase saw polling of 76.19 per cent, while the second phase saw 77.73 per cent.
As many as 2.31 lakh contestants participated the polls for 91,975 posts. The elections are being conducted for the posts, Gram Panchayat Ward member, Gram Panchayat President, Panchayat Union ward member and District Panchayat Union Ward member.
