Engg graduate becomes panchayat chief, dad loses
By a strange twist of fate, a female engineering graduate, who contested the president’s post in Mel Vilvarayanallur panchayat in Kalasapakkam panchayat union, has won, while her father, who contested a ward in the same Panchayat Union, lost.

Nilavazhagi (23), daughter of Poyyamozhi of the above village, has won the panchayat president’s post comfortably while Poyyamozhi, who contested the panchayat union Ward 8, lost.
Similarly, Shanmugapriya, studying for CA, has won the post of president of the Pillur village panchayat in the same panchayat union, comfortably. In the Siruvallur village, both Ramamoorthy, who contested the panchayat president’s post and his wife Sakthi, who contested the panchayat union Ward 7 in the same panchayat union, lost.
In Membalur village panchayat in Kalasapakkam PU, Saraswathi defeated her rival Meenakashi by a single vote. While Saraswathi received 624 votes, Meeanakshi received 623 votes.
In the same PU, Pattammal Munusamy (67), who was the president of the Melarani village panchayat union in 2006-11 and 2011-16, scored a hat-trick by successfully contesting in Ward 13.
