The training session, initiated by School Education Department, was to ensure that the teachers are quipped to teach English to the students as the State government has decided to introduce a special English training session in all government schools in the State.
At present, there are about 1.7 lakh teachers are working in government and government aided primary and middle schools across the State.
Approximately, about 34,000 teachers take English classes.
Speaking to DT Next, a senior official from the School Education Department said,”The government had already given basic training to these teachers through English Skill Training Programme.”
He said the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), has been appointed as a nodal agency to monitor the training session, which will be held in Bengaluru through resources persons.
Accordingly, the first batch of training session will start from January 20. The official said that the authorities are in the final stage of shortlisting the teachers of the first batch, who will be sent to Karnataka for training.
“First batch will contain teachers from classes 5-8 since those students will have board exams this year,” he said adding “Therefore, the teachers will complete well before the annual exams.”
Stating that experts would adopt easy methods of training, so that teachers would in turn teach the students to speak and write English fluently, the official said that training materials would be supplied to the teachers.
He said that the second batch of training will be given at the end of this academic year. “Many teachers have evinced interest in joining the training,” he said adding that the State government would bare all the cost involved for the training.
