Kerala cops announce cash reward for clue on suspects
Police on Friday announced a cash reward of Rs 4 lakh for anyone providing information on two suspected Islamist extremists, who allegedly shot dead a Special Sub Inspector of Police (SSI) at a check-post on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border near Kaliyakkavilai in the district.

In a press release, the police said that any information or clue regarding the two suspects A Abdul Shameem of Thiruvithaancode and M.Thoufique of Malik Dinar Nagar in Kottar in Kanniyakumari district can be provided to the Office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police at Thuckalay through the landline telephone number 04651-250741, Kaliyakkavilai Police Station on 04651-244485 and District Police Control Room on 04652-220417.
Anyone sharing the information or clue leading to the arrest of the two suspects will be provided a cash reward of Rs 2 lakh each (total Rs 4 lakh) and their identity will be kept confidential.
The police also released the photographs of Abdul Shameem and Thoufique.
Police sources said the accused have suspected terror links and have murder and attempt to murder cases separately pending against them.
Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police (South Zone) KP Shanmuga Rajeswaran told the media here that 10 special teams have been formed to nab the assailants. “Investigations were going on and the accused will be arrested soon,” he added.
SSI Y. Wilson (57), attached to the Kaliyakkavilai police station, was shot dead by two men, when he was conducting vehicle check at the Padanthalumoodu check-post on Wednesday night.
CCTV footage collected from the spot showed that the assailants, who came to the check-post on foot, opened fire at Wilson at point-blank range.
