Declare holiday on Jan 14 for Bhogi, demands PMK
At a time when there are speculations going viral on social media about holiday on January 14, PMK, on Sunday, urged the state government to declare ‘Bhogi’ as government holiday.

“The Pongal festival starts with ‘Bhogi’ and students studying mainly in hostels will face difficulty in reaching their native places. The state government should consider the plight of the students and should direct the school education department to declare ‘Bhogi’ as government holiday,” said Ramadoss, in a tweet. In the meantime, the government announced holiday of 10 days for all ITIs, starting from Saturday till January 19.
On the lines of Puducherry government, there were also demands in Tamil Nadu to declare government holiday on ‘Bhogi.’ The PMK placed the demand citing the rush during Pongal holidays.
Meanwhile, a Raj Bhavan release on Sunday said it has postponed ‘Pongal Peruvizha,’ planned on its premises on Monday to January 14, Tuesday to mourn the death of Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Al Said, the ruler of Oman.
