Pre-budget Cabinet meet on Jan 20
The ruling AIADMK government led by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will convene the state Cabinet meeting on January 20. According to Secretariat sources, the meeting is to be scheduled in the evening and the communications in this regard have been sent to all the state Ministers.

The meeting comes at a time when the state will prepare for its last financial budget to be tabled by the Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam. The Cabinet is to discuss the last full-fledged budget of the current AIADMK government which had completed four years in office.
Key issues like financial constraint, execution of the projects and the status of the ongoing schemes are to be discussed. The state is facing a debt of over Rs 4 lakh crore and is facing the state Assembly elections by next year. The impetus will be on attracting investments through single window system and to fasten the MoUs signed during the Global Investors Meet. Issues pertaining to the state industries department is to be a key issue in the Cabinet meeting, sources said.
The Cabinet is likely to discuss the murder of Wilson. The conduct of elections for urban local bodies is also another issue likely to be discussed in the Cabinet meeting, sources said. It may be noted that the local body polls are delayed in nine districts due to delimitation exercise. During 2019 January Cabinet meeting, the AIADMK government resolved to scrap the direct elections to the posts of mayors, municipal chairpersons and district panchayat chairpersons.
