Remains of woman missing in 2017 exhumed, hubby held

The mortal remains of a woman, who went missing in 2017, were exhumed in Pudukkottai on Monday and police arrested her husband and his friend on charges of murder.

The mortal remains of a woman, who went missing in 2017, were exhumed in Pudukkottai on Monday and police arrested her husband and his friend on charges of murder.


G Saranya, 27, went missing on July 16, 2017, from Alangudi. A case was registered at Alangudi Police station under “woman missing” (Cr.No.288/2017). The police had invesigated the case thoroughly, but could not make any leads. Her father Gunasekaran then moved the high court and the case was later transferred to the CB-CID police for further investigation.


Subsequently, the Pudukottai CB-CID unit held a thorough probe, which found some tips while analysing the mobile phone call details of the missing woman and her husband Raja. Connecting all the dots of the suspects in the case, a clear picture emerged and revealed the hands of her husband Raja in the murder. Upon interrogation, it was learnt that Raja, who was in abroad, had suspected the fidelity of Saranya.


Later, Raja conspired with his friends Raghuvaran, Raghul, Vasu and Sivaprakasam and murdered Saranya on July 16, 2017 and buried the body in an abandoned well on the outskirts of the Semarapatti village. The accused Raghuvaran was picked up and he confessed to the crime and identified the place where the body was buried before the witness.


In the presence of the taluk magistrate and doctors, the place, identified by the accused, was dug on Monday and found the human skeletons with old saree and a pair of silver anklets.


The parents of the deceased Saranya identified the wearing found in the pit. All the accused were arrested. The police are further probingthe case.


Body of anotherwoman exhumed

Meanwhile, the body of K Vellaiyammal (21) of Andivalasai near Thiruchengode in Namakkal district, who was killed by her partner Muthu (25), an astrologer from Kosavampatti, on January 11, was exhumed on Tuesday. Muthu slit the throat of Vellaiyammal and buried the body at a secluded place when she insisted on marriage .
