In a statement, CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan said that the Centre has held a consultative meeting in New Delhi on Friday to jointly take up the work on the Census and the NPR.
“The Census, which is being taken once in ten years and the NPR are not the same one..,” he said, adding that the NPR is a different one. “One should note that the NPR is being implemented based on the Citizenship Act. So, everyone was forced to submit evidence to prove that they are Indian citizen. This severely affects the ordinary people,” he said. “Both the census and population register have two different purposes. The Centre’s plan to implement both from April 1 poses a serious threat. No Indian citizen will accept this,” he said.
