Sikh duo from Bangkok smuggles gold in turbans

Customs officials seized gold worth Rs 1.30 crore and arrested two passengers who hid the gold in turbans.

In the first incident on Wednesday, the Customs recovered gold concealed in two pouches which were inside the turbans of the two passengers identified as Supreet Singh (34) and Damnanpreet Singh (25) who arrived from Bangkok. On further search, four bundles were recovered from their rectum and innerwear. The officials seized gold weighing about 1.8 kg valued Rs 74 lakh and both were arrested. In the second incident, the officials intercepted Mohamed Huzaid (27) and Chandrakumar (23) from Sri Lanka. Officials seized crude gold rings and chains worth Rs 39.12 lakh. In the final incident, Customs intercepted Madhavan (21) who arrived from Dubai. On search, the officials recovered two long gold wires worth Rs 16.43 lakh.
