H Raja to be chargesheeted for abusing HC

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday directed Thirumayam police, Pudukottai district, to file a chargesheet against BJP national secretary H Raja, who was accused of passing derogatory remarks against court and police during Lord Vinayagar idol procession at Meiyapuram in Pudukottai in September 2018.

A petitioner, Duraiswamy, advocate, claimed that the Thirumayam police had filed a case against Raja following the incident, but even a year, no chargesheet had been framed in the case. While several devotees performed rituals near the Mariamman temple at Thirumayam, Raja, along with the cadre of the Hindu Munnani, entered into a quarrel with the police over denial of making stage arrangements, after the police denied permission citing court order.

Subsequently, Raja lost his cool and allegedly passed derogatory remarks against the High Court and the police personnel, accusing them as corrupt. Recalling this, the petitioner said the police were hesitating to take action against the BJP leader and hence sought the judge to direct the Thirumayam police to file a chargesheet in connection with the case at the earliest.

After hearing, Justice AD Jagadish Chandira ordered the Thirumayam Inspector of Police to file a chargesheet within a period of two months and disposed of the case.
