Led by MLA N Karthik, the party workers gathered in front of the South Taluk Office and protested against the water supply project being handed over to France-based SUEZ Group.

The multinational firm has taken over the arrangement of meeting the water supply for 60 wards in the City Municipal Corporation for the next 26 years. According to the agreement, it would conduct a survey for a year, implement the scheme by creating infrastructure for four years and carry out maintenance works for the next 21 years.

The protesting DMK functionaries alleged that it will lead to irregularities.

Further, the protesting DMK workers raised slogans against handing over water supply rights to private players. They also voiced against the Corporation setting up micro composting centres in residential areas, which they claimed could cause spread of diseases.
