After meeting with top TNPSC officials in connection with the investigations into the malpractices in the group IV exam, which was held recently, the Minister claimed that expect for the two centres (Rameswaram and Keelakarai), TNPSC has conducted the exam in fair manner in other centres.

“Therefore, the exams will not be cancelled and instead a fresh rank list is being prepared,” he said adding “it is unfair to ask the genuine candidates to write the exams again.”

Claiming that the ongoing inquiry by CB-CID was on the right path, Jayakumar said, so far, a total of 13 persons, who were involved in the scam, were arrested.

To a question whether there would be a CBI enquiry into TNPSC exam scam, the Minister replied that there is no point in calling the CBI for this purpose and CB-CID is very transparent in its investigation and it will do its best.

“There are culprits everywhere and therefore, it is the government’s duty to find them,” he said adding that anything going against the law is unacceptable and everyone, who had involved in the malpractices, will be punished.

Claiming that TNPSC must not be blamed as the exams were carried out in a fair manner in the past, the Minister said people should not lose faith and TNPSC is doing the duty in the best possible manner.

Refuting reports that there was political interference in the probe, Jayakumar said the state government will not protect anyone whether he is big shot or influenced person.

To another query that whether there would be investigation into the recently held group 2A and group 1 tests, the Minister said, “We will investigate into that if there is any prima facie in the charges.”

Odisha model

The Minister said that Tamil Nadu will soon follow Odisha model of conducting public service exams. “In Odisha, new rules were brought in conducting free and fair exams, which is very successful,” he added.

Stating that like Odisha, new rules will also be framed here to conduct the TNPSC exams in future, Jayakumar said and added that soon a bill will be passed in the next Assembly session in this regard.”
