Sources revealed that one Balaji(30) of Salem who had come to see his ailing sister Easwari in Vellore died recently. Easwari’s plea to send her brother’s corpse back to Salem to bury it there, was not accepted by her relatives. Easwari was apprehensive on making a decision as she did not have much help. She herself required help for her domestic needs and her elder brother provides her Rs 2,000 each month for her medical expenses.
When word of her plight spread, members of the ‘mosque service committee’ came forward to help. Nearly 60 people of the Muslim community arrived to take her brother’s corpse to a burial ground at Pernambut and helped in completing all the formalities. They were accompanied by Easwari’s elder brother Muthusamy and Easwari’s son Tamilselvan.
However, the locals were surprised to see them at the burial ground carrying corpse of a person belonging to non-Muslim community. Sources added that the entire group left the burial ground only after all formalities were conducted for Balaji’s corpse.
