The patient, Chitra, had gone to visit her husband in Hong Kong two weeks ago and returned to Chennai late on Thursday on a Cathay Pacific flight. After thermal scanning at the Chennai International Airport, she was sent home. However, on Friday morning, Chitra developed mild fever and visited a private clinic where she was advised to go to the Government Hospital in Chromepet. Since there were several cases of corona virus reported from Hong Kong, the woman was referred to RGGGH where she has been admitted for monitoring.
“The patient has very mild fever and samples have been sent for testing. She has been kept under observation till we notice further changes in the body condition. The fever could be because of anxiety also,” said Dr R Jayanthi, dean, RGGGH. Two other patients with fever symptoms have been admitted at the government hospitals in Tiruvanamalai and Krishnagiri in isolation wards and are being monitored. Meanwhile, two others from Kancheepuram and four from Chengalpattu who arrived from China have been put on domestic quarantine by health officials and their condition isbeing monitored. Later in the day, health minister C Vijaya Baskar clarified that all the three suspected cases of coronavirus are not yet confirmed and are merely being monitored.
