TN, King’s College to jointly build multi-speciality hospital

A delegation, led by Dr Paarthi Srinivasan and Dr Vinoth Mehta representing the premier London institute called on Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami at the Secretariat on Thursday to discuss the way forward in executing the MoU signed between TN and the London institute.

According to Secretariat sources, the MoU signed in August 2019 relates to the sharing of expertise in controlling communicable diseases in India. To execute the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme and Continuous medical programmes, the State government had previously exchanged a letter of intent with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. This also includes vector control measures and treatment protocols for diseases such as dengue and malaria. Besides, the TN Health Department delegation led by Palaniswami also ascertained the London Ambulance Service.

All these options will be discussed during the next course of the meeting. Allocation of land for the new centre, supporting logistics to be provided by the State are to be discussed and finalised. The site is likely to be in the south of Chennai particularly government land plots in Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram, sources said.

Earlier in the day, Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar and Health Secretary Beela Rajesh produced the Centre approval given to the TN Health Department to set up new medical colleges in Kallakurichi and Ariyalur.
